Adjusted Gross Income only has to fall below $100,000 for one year to qualify for a Roth conversion. If the income is a few thousand dollars more than $100,000, shift some income to next year and/or sell stocks to take capital losses in taxable accounts. Losses also might put a taxpayer in a lower bracket and reduce tax on the conversion.
